This is clearly the icing of Mr. Lanyon's short story collection. Review on July 18th, Jan 16, Plainbrownwrapper rated it really liked it Shelves: mm , i-own-it-audio. I enjoyed listening to the audio of this book very much. For one thing, it's much longer than most romance audios -- 14 hours! And, of course, you get to spend all that time listening to Josh's high-class tales. IMHO there wasn't a single real dud in the bunch. And, fortunately, Lanyon's stories seem to translate well to the audio format -- which, I think, is a testament I enjoyed listening to the audio of this book very much.
And, fortunately, Lanyon's stories seem to translate well to the audio format -- which, I think, is a testament to the quality of his writing. One problem with romances in audio is that weak writing can really be magnified when read aloud, but that isn't an issue with the stories here. Whether you're already a Fanyon, or whether you just want an introduction to his work, this would be a good audio for you to invest in. Sep 11, Amy Spector rated it it was amazing.
This is an absolutely brilliant collection of short stories. The collection tied loosely together by a candy store called 'Sweets to the Sweet', and it's owner Chance, like a none-evil, though perhaps just as unnerving, Leland Gaunt of Chocolatiers. Each of the thirteen stories are a perfect sample of sub genre—horror, crime, war, etc—each one drawing you in from the first, and leaving you wanting more, only be drawn into the the next.

I'm very excited about having this book for three reasons: first, there's a NEW short story!!! I do like to know a bit about how the story came about, so it was a great idea to add that; and finally, it's great to have these stories in one place and with such a beautiful cover too!
Nov 07, Susu rated it really liked it. Many great stories. The only problem I had was that some stories, although great, seemed cut off. They simply ended without resolution. Not did they end with an HEA or not but more like who pushed that guy down the stairs? Or how did the wheelchair bound guy with no income move out of his caregivers house with no money and no where to go? I would loved if some of these stories were longer and seen to the end. Still a great read. Love anything from this author! Still a favorite anthology. Good narrators. I bought this collection, since I've been holding off on the Petit Morts stories and didn't have a couple of the other older works. Plus it has a whole new story! A nice, large collection with great stories and introductions to each of them. A great collection, which gave me several hours of reading pleasure. A collection of Josh Lanyon shorts - what's not to love? And on audio? Got this as my freebie when signing up with Audible :D Good quality narration. Recommended for audio book fans.

I can not say enough about how well this man writes and how much I love reading what he writes. Thirteen short stories, some of them I really, really liked, others, not so much. But that's what happens when there are so many stories bunched together. I have reviewed all of these one by one, so I only need to say that the narration of each of them was superb.
Oct 13, EmilieSA rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in Really good collection of short stories. It's a format Josh Lanyon excels at and out of 15 only 1 story didn't work for me. And it was because of the trope and not because of the writing. I wouldn't recommend reading them all back to back, but one here and there between novels worked perfectly. I liked some of them better than some others, all were new to me and the narration provided by several narrators was enjoyable. See updates for comments and ratings on each story. The answer: you can't!
Multi-award-winning author Donald McRae's stunning new book is a powerful tale of hope and redemption across the sectarian divide in Northern Ireland - thanks to boxing. Start by marking “In Sunshine or in Shadow: Short Stories, Volume 1” as Want to Read: Sexy, sweet, and occasionally strange, these brief but emotionally powerful stories encapsulate everything readers of Male Male romance have come to love most about Josh Lanyon's work.
Each story is an enjoyable read. All together they manage to take the reader on a spectrum of emotions. In a Dark Wood was probably my favorite, of course it was nearing Halloween so that might have influenced my preference of it over the others. A Limited Engagement managed to take me from frightened to happily ever after in only pages, quite a feat for a short story.
In Plain Sight had me on the edge of my seat as Nash tried to find Glen and discover what his priorities were all at the same time. And I loved the way Chance and his Sweets to the Sweet shop always knew exactly what his customers needed in the Petit Mort stories. An interesting, overall, set of short stories. Some narrators I enjoyed, some not so much. I guess I will have to read some of the other authors in the Petit Morts series to get a better picture of Chance's role, but the little bits and tastes were intriguing overall. I'm not really a fan of short stories usually, as I tend to be left wanting, but this set had a fairly satisfying resolution of sorts.

I'm sure I enjoyed them more as audio narration than I would have if I had bought and read the books individually. A great way to multitask, and Josh always does a good job on selecting his narrators compared to many other authors I have attempted to listen to. Good samples of his work. Dec 31, Mari Donne rated it it was amazing Shelves: audio. I listen to a lot of audio books, and this is one stands out. I was already familiar with most of the stories and enjoyed the ones that were new to me.
I bought it because I wanted to hear the title story and "Perfect Day" read aloud. The latter likely because I have a weakness for characters who need to be hit over the head with a heavy brick before they realize they love each other. The narration was tailored to I listen to a lot of audio books, and this is one stands out. The narration was tailored to each tale. I'm hoping to meet up with Chance someday and try some of his chocolate's. Almost 14 hours of storytelling and the narrators did a fantastic job. They credit four narrators but with the mix and mingle of the characters in the various stories, I would have suspected even more.
