Namely, I was looking for odd smatterings of narrator asides which also provided the foreshadowing he often used to hint at plot points to come, and child-like tangents snowballing into somewhat lengthy paragraphs of fun.

What I found, instead, is that the story was not so meandering as Peter Pan — one of the aspects which made it so enjoyable — but instead it was more plot-driven, with considerably more character dialogue, and with characters following their pre-arranged courses and actions instead being proactive and pushing the story along with their actions.

Plus, the plot pulled in so many different threads that it overpowered the overall read-aloud, light-hearted sound with hinted at dark undercurrents which defines the original. It read like Mr. However, in NeverWorld , Peter hardly sounds like himself; his personality was just not quite there as I read it. There were spots where he came out to play, but by and large, I was having a hard time connecting the Peter of NeverWorld with the Peter of Neverland.

The NeverWorld is full of adventures just not many by Peter : Prince Jarrod has an adventure with the pirates, Tiger Lily has hers with retrieving the books of the Piccaninny tribe, the Lost Boys have one with the pirates, and even Amy has an adventure. Not to mention the roles Michael Pan and Alistair Adams play and the resulting adventures which come into being for the other characters as a result of their actions. Peter could almost be called a required side character, as his presence allows all of these adventures to take place on the NeverWorld; without him, there might never have been a NeverWorld, let alone a Neverland, where the adventures could happen.
